Launching!
Finally getting to the point of turning this site live and getting it out there for the world to see. Not that the world cares. Is it all ready to go and perfect? Nope. It's time to get it out there and keep working on it as I go.
This has been an interesting journey. It was last February when I made the decision to retire early from my IT job and just go be a photographer. Over the last two years I've been taking lots of training to learn photography skills. I feel like I have got to the point of being able to shoot just about anything anywhere. Been working on learning the software as well, because just clicking a camera does not necessarily translate to a nice picture without some post processing.
No sooner did I announce my retirement plan, giving them three months to clear my plate, but my boss left for another job and I got to put all his stuff on my plate too. And then Covid happened and it looked like making any change was probably a bad idea so I rescinded my decision. Then, since I worked for an aircraft company, many people were let go or furloughed. Lucky me I got to add a couple more piles of stuff to my plate. This was not what I had in mind in February. By June things were looking a little better, so I reset my departure to October.
I needed to take a little time and unwind from the whirlwind that having extra work and then trying to offload everything caused. It was a zoo for the last month I was there. When I was finally gone, it took literally three weeks for my mind to settle down and for me not to feel tense and under pressure. Holy cow, I did not even realize just how it affected me. At this point I'm feeling so much better, I'm eating way better, losing weight that I packed on over the last eleven years of staring at computer screens, and generally feeling a lot better about life.
In November, I started to actually work on putting this business together. Having never run a photography business before, it meant I needed to learn a whole lot about the biz. I made one decision that was probably the very best decision and that was to join PPA - Professional Photographers of America. They are the real deal if you need to know anything about the photography business. Training, webinars, and the annual Imaging USA convention which this year was held completely online. The sessions offered during this convention were invaluable to me in getting a good foundation set for my business.
Now, I'm ready to go and today is Launch Day!
Come along for the ride!
