White Sands Part 3
A bird checks out what is in the little depressions.
Today I will complete my White Sands journey. A few left from my nature hike, and then some taken from out the window as I made a fast drive through the rest of the park and back out. This journey was all about picking up my show booth interior for which I had an appointment time pressing on me. After pickup, I made my way to a rest area on the west side of Las Cruces. I stayed there for several hours and got some rest before making a mad dash for home.
Standing on top of one of the taller dunes, looking back over the nature trail.
This is a picture of a dune face right along the road. It is probably at least twenty feet tall. I really love the patterns and the places where the sand is slipping. It wasn’t until I started to look closely that I noticed the tracks some small critter made running the width of the picture.
I grew up in Iowa so I’ve seen scenes that look like this a lot. But usually they melt away shortly. This snow drift is going nowhere.
The wind works its never ending task of rearranging the sands.
A special kind of sand and a special kind of place.
From one day to the next the edge of this dune will slowly fill in.
A red tailed hawk takes flight.
Heading off for a hunt.
At this point I was done at White Sands and had to make the drive to Las Cruces to take care of business. After loading the truck and eating, it was time for a break and a good nap before heading back home. The next few pictures are from a rest area on the west side of Las Cruces.
A bird checking me out.
This road runner is an enormous statue built out of all kinds of recycled material.
There are flowers just about everywhere.
For those who care, all the pictures I took on this trip was with a Nikon D850 and Nikon 105mm Micro lens. Seems to be a pretty good combination!
