Gypsum Hills Scenic Drive
Last week I went for my first picture shoot in quite a while. This will be a regular part of the routine from now on! As much as anything, this was a scouting trip for a couple of areas that I have been interested in and wanted to get a brief look to see if they merit some additional attention.
The first set of pictures here comes from the Gypsum Hills Scenic Drive. For the last several years I have been making regular passes through the Gypsum Hills on Highway 160 between Medicine Lodge and Coldwater. What a gorgeous area of Kansas, with unexpected scenery. On this day I intentionally turned off onto the Scenic Drive tour. I should have done that sooner!
It is now early fall, and the colors of the grass have faded to browns and golds. The trees have a tinge of color but not much yet. Yellow flowers are found in abundance.
The play of the red hills and the green of trees and prairies is a different look than we usually see in Kansas.
After spending an hour or two checking out the Scenic Tour loop, I am going to have to visit again soon. Fortunately this area is only 70 miles away from me so I can go to this area on an impulse!
