A Flint Hills Vista
Been a bit of a whirlwind trying to put all the pieces together for doing art fairs/craft shows. On my way home last night from my last journey, I got a great view of this storm off in the distance with the sun setting behind it. I was driving through the Flint Hills on the Kansas Turnpike and stopped at the Bazaar Cattle Pens to take these pictures. I wasn’t able to take any more after this but was treated to a magnificent show of color.
One thing I want to point out is this storm is a long way away. A friend of mine took some amazing pictures and he was 40 miles closer to this than I am. A big thunderhead will get an anvil formation at the top because of the cloud rising high enough to be affected by the strong high level winds. This thing must be pushed up into some major league winds up high the way that long trail crosses the sky. After seeing images from several vantage points, that is an impressive storm.
