A Fowl Morning

Knot Head checking me out.

Drove through Woods Park in Wellington the other morning. Things were still quite frozen, but a group of geese had one bit of the creek stirred up enough for open water. There are enough people that feed the ducks and geese down here that if you pull up nearby and roll down your window they think it is time for chow. I got a kick out of the big goose popping its head up over the bank and checking me out. The knothead goose and its entourage leaped up over the bank and came right over to my truck. I believe they were a bit miffed that I did not have any treats for them!

Up periscope!

After Knot Head’s alert, the entire Feed Me Entourage comes popping over the bank.

Some very colorful ducks there.

Knot Head looking rather miffed that nothing is being thrown out to eat.

Another dissatisfied customer.

A disapproving look.

Knot Head honking loudly at me.

Turning away in disappointment, the Feed Me Entourage heads on to some other fowl play.

A heron that is definitely seeing fish below the ice.

On the way out of the park, a heron was standing right on a patch of very clear ice. I watched as it would see a fish and go for it but have its beak bounce off of the ice. It stood back up and looked at me like it thought I should come over and fix that.

Three different times it struck at the fish and just bounced off of the ice.

Well, something seems wrong here!
