Gypsum Hills In Early Spring

Last week I made a short duration trip that took me out across the prairies to southern Colorado. I had one day there to visit and was not planning on doing much sightseeing. Just some friend time. Which seems to be never long enough. My plan was to get some pictures of spring across the plains because it should start being very pretty out there.  A few extra hours on the trip there and back to get some nice shots is a small price to pay.

As is usually the case my plans were spoiled a bit by the weather. I had planned to see sunrise in the Gypsum Hills to start things off. The night before my trip I checked weather conditions and it was supposed to be cloudy and possible rain most of the way so I scratched the sunrise expedition. I did stop at the Information Kiosk parking to take a few pictures.

Things are turning green but are not quite there yet. Wheat fields are amazing green and growing like crazy. Prairie land and pastures are still working their way towards the greening. Things have to grow a bit to show up in the dry grass from last year. Another week or two should be gorgeous.
