Late Autumn At Quivera Part 2

This is taken at the observation area located on the southwest corner of the Wildlife Drive. Swans in the foreground, Sandhill Cranes on the middle left and in the air above the island, and lots of Snow Geese in the sky.

Continuing on with pictures from my visit to Quivera National Wildlife Refuge in Stafford County, Kansas. Yesterday took us from dawn until arriving at the Wildlife Drive which lies at the north end of the Refuge. It is about 15 miles from where the Refuge Headquarters is located at the south end. This is a very big place.

The morning alarm had not rung yet for this group of geese.

A swan stretches its wings in the morning sun.

Did anyone lose something?

Looks like there was some fast food consumed here.

Looking west across the Big Salt Marsh, a group of swans on the water and a hawk perched on the shore.

A swan paddles its way along in the Big Salt Marsh. There were more swans present than I have ever seen before.

From the observation point looking southwest at the large number of Sandhill Cranes along the far shore. There are a couple other smaller pools right behind the vegetation where you could see lots of cranes as well. I believe the top of the flour mill in Hudson is poking up over the trees on the left side.

Some Green-winged Teal hanging out.

A couple of mallards.

I do not think that just fell out of the bird.

A Dark-eyed Junko watching us approach.
