Morning On The Big Salt Marsh

The morning I saw the whooping cranes shown in my last blog which was in early March, I also saw a lot of other birds and animals. This installment will give them some time. These are all pictures taken from the Wildlife Drive through the Big Salt Marsh at Quivera National Wildlife Refuge.

A Northern Harrier catches the golden glow.

When I saw this picture I realized that I had actually seen a couple more Whooping Cranes. Total of nine that morning.

In the middle of the marsh, a large number of snow geese were sitting on the water.

Just a few minutes after I took the last picture, a huge flock of the snow geese took to there air and headed north.

This guy came swimming by. I suspect it is a beaver, maybe a muskrat.

A nice profile shot.

A short eared owl making a pass over the water.

There were a large number of sandhill cranes.

A pair of geese enjoying a quiet moment.

Pelicans were plentiful.

A group of cormorants coming in for a landing.

Sandhill cranes on the move.

These bald eagles had been in the grass at the edge of the marsh and then decided it was time to sit in the tree. Looks like there’s a nest there but I couldn’t tell if it was n use.

After having enjoyed some quiet moments, the two geese began quite a ruckus.

Pelicans on the move.

A coot doing coot things.

A canvasback giving me the eye.
