The 121st Kansas Wheat Festival is in full swing here in Wellington. This also celebrates 150 years of Wellington being a town. Sumner County lays claim to being the Wheat Capital of the World due to quantity and quality of the crops grown here. There are a ton of activities running from early morning to street dances in the evenings. Tomorrow is the Art and Craft Show at the Memorial Auditorium downtown and I will have my booth set up and in action for the very first time. I’m excited!

Getting to this point has been a lot of hard work and planning. Going from being an IT guy last year to having a nature photography business has been a huge learning curve. There are a lot of things to think about and decisions to make in setting up a business. Being your own boss means you have to want to do it, and have the drive to get out of bed and go to work even though no one is expecting you anywhere. So far I have really been enjoying it. Tomorrow is the first real test of how I have done so far.

I still have work to do today to get ready for the show. At least this is all indoor work now! It is hot out there, and I’ve spent the last three days setting up my booth in the back yard and getting an idea of how the display will actually look. I still have a stack of prints to get ready for display, but otherwise I think I am about ready for the show!

Hope everyone comes to see me at the Wheat Festival Art and Craft Show! Oh yeah, bring some money too….
